GRIFFITHSVILLE — A crash early on New Year’s Day caused damage to the Griffithsville Post Office, closing the location indefinitely.

According to West Virginia State Police, the accident occurred just after midnight and involved a single vehicle.

A notice has been posted on the door of the building stating the accident caused structural damage to the building. The location will be closed until further notice while an assessment is done.

Patrons who normally use the Griffithsville Post Office have been directed to the location in Hamlin to collect their mail and utilize other postal services. The Hamlin Post Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Saturdays from 8:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

There is no estimated time of when repairs will be complete for the Griffithsville Post Office to reopen.
